WHY IS DISCIPLESHIP IMPORTANT?

Discipleship matters so much because it’s the way Jesus told us to carry the Gospel. He didn’t say just go get people to believe and leave them there… He said go make disciples. That means walking with people, teaching them, pouring into them, and helping them actually live this thing out. In Matthew 28:18 to 20, Jesus makes it clear that we’re called to go into all the world, make disciples, baptize them, and teach them to follow what He commanded. This was never meant to be a surface level thing, it was always meant to be life on life.

When you look at 2 Timothy 2:2, you see that pattern. What’s been poured into you, you pour into someone else, and then they do the same. It keeps going. That’s how the Gospel spreads, not just through words, but through relationships. And as we walk this out, God is changing us too. 2 Peter 1:5 to 8 shows that growth in Christ isn’t automatic, it’s something that develops as we walk with Him, and discipleship is a big part of that process.

Paul even said in 1 Corinthians 11:1, follow me as I follow Christ. That’s real discipleship. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about living in a way where someone can look at your life and be pointed back to Jesus. And in John 8:31, Jesus said if we continue in His Word, then we are truly His disciples. That’s the key… staying in His Word, letting it shape us, and actually living it out.

At the end of the day, discipleship is how the Gospel keeps moving. It’s how people grow, how lives are changed, and how we do what Jesus actually called us to do. It’s not just teaching, it’s living, walking, and growing together… all of it centered on Him.
